Tweet Share on Facebook May 15, 2012 Comment (3)Mitt Romney is arguing that, despite criticism that he was a predatory businessman interested only in making profits, his stint running Bain Capital, a private-equity firm, shows that he was committed to creating jobs and improving communities across the country.
In a new Web video, "American Dream," Romney's Republican presidential campaign says Bain helped many people find a better life and, as an example, says that Bain played a role in helping Steel Dynamics Inc. of Indiana survive.

Ron Paul Urges Supporters to Continue Fighting
Tweet Share on Facebook May 15, 2012 Comment (9)Ron Paul is scaling back his Republican presidential campaign but not his bid to inject more libertarianism into the Republican party, encouraging his supporters to take over the GOP in the long term.
Paul's announcement that he won't spend the "tens of millions" of dollars needed to compete in the upcoming Republican presidential primaries has disappointed some of his followers. Many of them can't accept the notion that front-runner Mitt Romney will actually be the Republican nominee even though Romney is on the verge of gaining a majority of national delegates. But Paul strategists point out that he didn't actually end his campaign or even suspend it. He is urging his followers to continue pushing at the state and local levels to amass enough delegates to make a difference at the Republican National Convention this August. That was his main goal before the announcement, and it remains his main goal now.

Obama Using Bain Capital to Swing at Romney
Tweet Share on Facebook May 14, 2012 Comment (7)President Obama's re-election campaign is trying to revive a criticism of Republican challenger Mitt Romney that has been used against the former businessman many times before: that he was a predatory capitalist whose main objective was making profits, not creating jobs.
That's what's happening in the current Obama attack, which focuses on Romney's record running Bain Capital, a private equity firm.

Peter Hart: Election Could Be a 'German Shepherd or a Doberman'
Tweet Share on Facebook May 14, 2012 CommentPresident Obama shouldn't be cast as the favorite in the November election, partly because of continuing economic anxiety, public doubts about the overall direction of the country, and many voters' preference for "wholesale change for the fourth election in a row," says Democratic pollster Peter Hart.
In a new memo to reporters and other political analysts, Hart says Obama's re-election is "no better than a 50-50 proposition." He says more Americans, 40 percent, believe that Republican challenger Mitt Romney has better ideas about improving the economy than Obama does, at 34 percent.

Republicans: Obama a Hollywood Hobnobber
Tweet Share on Facebook May 11, 2012 Comment (6)Republicans rarely miss an opportunity to needle President Obama about his affinity for the world of celebrities.
Their latest target is Obama's West Coast fund-raising tour this week, which included an event in Seattle and a glittering Los Angeles dinner with entertainment-industry stars at the home of actor George Clooney Thursday night. Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus dubbed Obama the "celebrity in chief" and criticized him for his willingness "to hobnob with celebrities while the middle class continues to be squeezed by Obama's policies."

Obama, GOP Eager to Avoid Culture War Over Gay Marriage
Tweet Share on Facebook May 10, 2012 CommentPresident Obama and his Republican critics are quickly shifting back to their long-running fight over the economy rather than immersing themselves in a fierce new battle over Obama's endorsement of same-sex marriage. It appears that the two sides don't want to get pulled into a culture war over homosexuality when most Americans are far more concerned about pocketbook issues.
Obama's re-election campaign began running two new TV ads in the key swing state of Florida Thursday, and neither of the commercials refers to same-sex unions. One, titled "Succeed," praises Obama's efforts to save the auto industry. The other, "Reverse," says Obama's policies have improved the economy and led to 26 months of private-sector job growth during which more than 4 million jobs were created. "Remember how things were just a few years ago?" the ad says. "Do we really want to reverse course now?"

Tweet Share on Facebook May 10, 2012 Comment (4)Christian conservatives are likely to mobilize more than ever against President Obama in reaction to his endorsement of same-sex marriage, and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will benefit because he has reaffirmed his opposition to such unions, conservative Christian leaders say.
